Condition A- / B+: minor repaired tears at edges; minor

creases and abrasions along vertical and horizontal folds.

Franz Griessler studied painting in Vienna and

designed his first poster after World War I. He

opened a design studio in partnership with Gewista,

a large outdoor advertising agency, for which he

produced a number of successful campaigns. This

poster, for a violin string maker, echoes the spirit of

Swiss Object Posters. The text explains that the

strings produce “the purest of sounds.”

Condition B+: minor losses, restored losses and repaired

tears in margins; minor creases and restoration in

margins and image.

Little historical record remains of what must have

been a large and elegant store in Lausanne, except

for a series of posters designed through the decades.

Among the artists who helped immortalize the store

was Charles Loupot, who designed a poster for

them in 1918. Here, the artist uses a black cat to

help emphasize the white of the sheets in the

month-long white sale.
