Sven Brasch studied art in Munich and Paris, and lived in New York for two years before finally
returning to Copenhagen. Although he is primarily known for the numerous movie posters he
designed, his work also includes wonderful examples of theatrical, exhibition and product posters.
He was awarded the coveted Grand Prize for graphic design at the seminal 1925
Paris Art Deco

. Here, for the Copenhagen Zoo, he depicts a hippo yawning. The image has remained so
popular that reproductions are still sold in the zoo gift shop today.
