(MILITARY—CIVIL WAR—PATRIOTIC COVERS—CONFEDERATE.)
Confederate cover, with a canon and “God and Our Rights.”
Addressed, re-
addressed and hand delivered to Maryann or Richard Jordan; and bearing a ten cent blue
Jefferson Davis stamp and a wonderful patriotic rhyme.
Georgia, circa 1861-1865
[600/900]
A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF A HAND
-
DELIVERED LETTER
;
THE ENTIRE COVER EVENLY
DARKENED
.
This example of “adversity” mail is addressed “To Maryann Jordan or Richard Jordan”
and delivered to “Tallapoosa PO Harelson County GA,” hand delivered by “Jasper Lorveny.” It
appears to have been used before, addressed in pencil, the pencil erased and the present address added
in ink. The scarcity of paper in the South caused all sorts of inventiveness.

(MILITARY—CIVIL WAR—PATRIOTIC COVERS—CONFEDERATE.)
Two Confederate covers C.S.A. * [and] C.S. of A.
“A.F. Muller, 16 Canal St.
Memphis, Tenn.” Unused with a five cent blue Jefferson Davis stamp, tiny piece of lower
reverse flap missing; there is no imprint on the second cover, but it appears very much like
figure 224 on page 130 in Wishnietsky’s “Confederate Covers.”
Memphis and [New Orleans], 1861-1865
[1,000/1,500]
Both of these covers are extremely rare. The second cover is not known in used condition.
