ANOTHER RARE SURVIVAL FROM THE ERA
OF APARTHEID
.
This “almanac,” produced and
distributed by the Lutheran Missions was basi-
cally an appointment book based on the church
and Bible readings: “Mateu,” “Duteronomi.”
The preliminary pages show the Queen of
England and the Prince of Wales and some
sort of brief history of the Cape Colony. There
follows a page for each month with what seem
to be suggested Bible readings, along with an
opposing blank page for notes, with which this
copy is filled. The native who owned this
almanac, Miyk a e li Madela (Michael Mandela,
related??) was obviously literate. He has filled
most of the pages up with notes.
