Maceo Pinkard was an American composer, lyricist, and music publisher. Among his compositions,
“Sweet Georgia Brown”, a timeless jazz standard and famous as the theme of the Harlem
Globetrotters basketball team. At age 17, Pinkard founded the theatrical agency in Omaha, Nebraska
which later evolved into Pinkard Publications, a music publishing firm in New York City.

Irvin Colloden Miller was an African-American actor, playwright and vaudeville show writer and pro-
ducer. In 1925, Miller started an annual show, Brown Skin Models, inspired by the Ziegfeld Follies but
glorifying attractive black women. Miller “specialized in revues featuring beautiful showgirls, snappy
dancing, and comedy”. It has been said of him that he “had a unique ability to locate pretty girls and
talented performers for his shows; and he gave Black audiences exactly what they wanted when they
came to the theatre…. .in the 1920s and 1930s, he was arguably the most well-established and success-
ful producer of black musical comedy.”

Paulene Myers (1913-1996) was born in Ocilla Georgia, but the family
moved to New Jersey when she was very young. She studied acting in New York and made her debut
in the 1933 production of “Growin’ Pains,” She was featured in “Member of the Wedding, Anna
Lucasta and Genet’s “The Blacks.” Myers is one of those character actresses whom we all recognize,
but seldom remember their names.
