Fabian, son of painter, Max Fabian, was born
in Berlin. A Jewish artist, he left for England in
1938. He turned to graphic design in 1950
and worked as a poster and book jacket
designer. Here, the avid newspaper reader is
actually a pillar in the industrial community; a
smokestack wearing a hat. The image is
notable for its strong, immediately readable
