ADOLPHE MOURON CASSANDRE (1901-1968)
124
●
PARIS. 1935.
39x24 inches, 99x61 cm. Draeger, [Paris.]
Condition B+: restored losses and restoration in margins and corners, some slightly affecting image. Framed.
Although produced in the same year as his fabled Normandie poster, this image is an indication of the
direction Cassandre’s work would take once he moved to America in 1936. It is done in a “charming,
dreamy” symbolic style based on Surrealism, and indeed, elements of Magritte can be seen; it is a
“foreglimpse of Cassandre’s later stage designs” (Mouron p. 71). Mouron 53, Zagrodzki 267, Voyage
p. 141, Reclame 99.
