Nikke was a Japanese clothing store. “In the 1920s and 1930s a number of Japanese designers became
interested in Western art and design. The series of posters for Nikke by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907-
1981) in the 1930s reflect the impact of German Expressionism and Constructivism, as well as the
Japanese wood-block tradition. These influences were combined to create innovative and dynamic
compositions of abstract figures and lettering”
