British-born Peter Gee came to America in 1962 and quickly became a prominent Pop Artist. He was
active within the commercial world; he designed posters for major clients such as Merrill Lynch and
also had a long-time association with the fashion designer Betsy Johnson. He worked extensively with
color theory and taught color workshops at School of Visual Arts in New York, the Rhode Island
School of Design and at the Harvard School of Architecture. Perhaps the pinnacle of his artistic career
was when his work was included in the 1968
Word and Image
poster exhibition at New York’s Museum
of Modern Art, alongside such other luminaries as Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana and Roy Lichtenstein.
