Last year Meyer wrote a little report on my German seminar. This year, he tried it again, but it

turned out all wrong, mired down in emotional mush. I suppressed it. Would you be interested in

doing something of that sort—with the necessary prudence? It wouldn’t have to be anything long; just

not ‘metaphorical,’ but rather stressing the epistemological difficulty.

Incidentally, I’m afraid that I haven’t yet congratulated you on the birth of a physical offshoot . . . .

The ways of the Lord are marvelous.Amen. One can do nothing of significance differently.You can tell

from this insight that I am getting old.”
