Sports writer and publisher Nat Fleischer’s

definitive series on African American pugilists.

Beginning with the early fighters like Tom

Cribb and Tom Molineaux in the early 19th

century, through the fighters like Jack Johnson

in the early 20th century, Fleischer’s history is

still considered to be the best.
