Williams and Walker were undoubtedly the

top performers in their field of African-

American vaudeville with broad appeal to both

black as well as white audiences. The duo

dubbed themselves the “Two Real Coons,”

essentially saying they were the “real thing,”

and not just another one of the numerous white

burnt cork players.
