Sentenced to Die for Throwing a Cuspidor!

Wells was sentenced to death by a California court for throwing a cuspidor at a guard while serving a
life sentence. California Governor Earl Warren refused to commute the sentence. It is no wonder that
hard right Republicans felt betrayed by Warren when his thinking changed after he was appointed to
the Supreme Court? Wells’ death sentence was eventually commuted by Governor Goodwin Knight.
