George Jackson (1941-1971), one of the
so-called Soledad brothers, was on trial for murder when his younger brother burst into the courtroom
with an automatic weapon, freeing Jackson and two others. They took with them the judge, D.A. and
three jurors as hostage. As they attempted to flee, a hail of gunfire killed the hostages. Angela Davis
was implicated in the deaths because she had purchased one of the weapons.
