Condition A.
Living in the United States after World War II, the account for
American Airlines
was the single largest
commission that Kauffer received. Between 1946 and 1953, he designed more than 30 posters for the
company. Some were landscapes and illustrative images, while others are photomontages or more
symbolic and progressive in their design. This is one of several he designed featuring an arrow to point
toward the destination, which he utilizes here along with the flags of the Scandinavian countries and
a evocation of the midnight sun. It is one of the few posters he designed during this era which resonate
with the dynamism of those he designed in Britain before the war. Kauffer 307.
