most with the plant identification, in ink, in
an unknown hand, on recto, and with the
Collector’s hand stamp, on verso. 1904-1930

Each postcard bears the hand stamp of the
Collector: Clair M. Overmiller. Overmiller studied
Physics at Gettysburg College in the 1920s and
went on to work for the American Telephone and
Telegraph Co. in Stony Creek,Virginia, NewYork
City, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Unusual 3-dimensional relief photograph of
a comely model. Platinum print, 9x7 inches
(3.5x2.8 cm.), with Campbell’s copyright and
Elizabeth, NJ address in the plate; in the
original frame. 1896

Alfred S. Campbell was a photographer and
entrepreneur. Born in England, he emigrated to the
U.S. and managed Napoleon Sarony’s studio. He
founded Alfred S. Campbell Art Company in
Elizabeth NJ, which was also known as AS
Campbell Art Company. He then opened
Campbell Studios, in NewYork City, with Rudolf
Eickemeyer. Campbell’s fine art photographs are in
the Alfred Stieglitz Collection at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art.
