(ARTIST’S ALBUM)
A gem of an album containing 50 poetic photographs taken by (or related to) a male artist, who appears
to have specialized in architectural ornamentation. Included are snapshots depicting figures and
buildings from different vantage points, views of his studio (with multiple drawings pinned to the
wall), a cyanotype of a classroom, the besmocked artist in front of an easel, scenes of an unidentified
woman, kittens, and celebratory family images. Silver (96), printing-out paper (2), platinum (one) and
cyanotye (one) prints, most measure about 4x2

(VERNACULAR SUMMER)
Album containing 28 artful photographs, by an
extremely talented American photographer who
creatively recorded four sisters’ (or friends’) special
vacation moments in the South. The pictures
depict period bathing costumes, fashionably
attired women in long white dresses and picture
hats, male and female friends playing with a dog
on the beach, the ladies enjoying a buggy ride
(which is lead by an African-American child and
drawn by an ox), friends eating watermelon, and
a series of pictures of the distaff trio “grooming”
a man, who’s lying in a barber’s chair, with a knife,
broom and pencil.Matte surface silver prints, 3x4
inches. Small oblong 4to, cloth; ties. Circa 1905
[700/1,000]
From the Collection of Thomas Harris.
The photographs in this album have an aesthetic
consistency and intentionality that is rare to find among
amateur practitioners. Each photograph was carefully
composed and printed and display a tableau-like quality
that is visually sophisticated and quite humorous.
