The
New Empress of Canada
was launched in
1961 and was the third ship in the Canadian
Pacific’s fleet to bear that name. In 1972 she
was sold to the Carnival Line, renamed the
Mardi Gras
and became the first cruise ship in
the company’s fleet, for which she sailed until
1993. Not in Canadian Pacific.

Pat Keely established himself as a prominent
graphic designer in the years before the Second
World War, known for his strong, stylized Art
Deco style (which he used most notably in his
posters for the Southern Railway). During
World War II, he was one of the artists chosen
to participate in the workplace safety series
commissioned by the Royal Society for the
Prevention of Accidents.
