Condition B+: minor repaired tears at edges; creases, abrasions and restoration in margins and image. Framed.
A graphically appealing photomontage with an almost hypnotic array of diagonal lines. The man is
seemingly sitting on the poster’s reclined title which, together with the line of text running parallel to
the typewriter’s cartridge, creates a dynamic image. One of two posters designed by Bernard for the
same product, the other one features a woman typing against a blue background.

Condition A: minor abrasions at edges.
Nathan Garamond was a member of the U.A.M. (Union des Artistes Modernes), alongside such
graphic art luminaries as Cassandre, Carlu, Loupot and Colin. He was encouraged by Carlu, ten years
his senior, to create the posters for
L’Habitation
, an exhibition of building designs, that was included
as a section of the
Salon des Arts Ménagers
. Nathan designed three posters for the exhibition from
1934 to 1936. His designs for this show are “impeccably architectural” (Affiches Art Deo p. 187) and
for this one he also incorporates photomontage into the image. UAM p. 69.
