Linoleum cut on thin Japan paper, 1958. 970x380 mm; 38x15 inches,
wide margins. Signed, titled and dated “59” in pencil, lower margin. A
very good, dark impression of this scarce, iconic print.
Proofs appear to have been printed by Charles White on an individual basis,
rather than in an edition,and over a period of a couple of
years.Wehave located
five other impressions, dated 1958 and 1960, in both private and public
collections including the Museum of ModernArt and ClarkAtlanta University.
We have found records of only two other impressions of this large linoleum
cut at auction in the past 25 years, including one sold at Swann Galleries
