Heller Gallery and Parma Gallery in NewYork in the 1950s.This abstraction expressionist painting

by Felrath Hines is the largest canvas by this artist to be offered at auction. In 1960, the artist began

painting pure abstraction and on a larger scale; another similar canvas from 1960 is in the collection

of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He was a founding member of the Spiral Group in 1963, and

had a long career as a museum painting conservator.
