English-born Fletcher (1866-1950) trained as a painter-printmaker in London, and taught

art in London, Reading and Edinburgh in the early 1900s, before moving to California

in 1924 to become director of the Santa Barbara School of the Arts (1924-30). He later

lived in Los Angeles and Ojai.
