Born in Philadelphia, DeMartelly (1903-1979) studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of

Fine Arts. He taught printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute during the 1930s and

1940s and worked with Thomas Hart Benton.When Benton was fired from the Kansas

City Art Institute, DeMartelly was offered his position and became the head of the

Painting department at the Institute. Zink 10.
