.

Paschal

Beverly Randolph (1825-1875), African-

American medical doctor, occultist, spiritualist

and trance medium was the author of a number

of books on Eastern thought and spiritual mat-

ters. This book was published only a few years

before his death. The “Free Love” part of the

title was meant to sound outrageous, and sell

books. Randolph was the first African

American Rosicrucian which did not sit well

with the conservative African-American public.
