In 1968, Seale and seven others were arrested for inciting to riot while

protesting at the Democratic National Convention; a chaotic melee, inside and outside on the street.

Seale and the seven others who were arrested with him became known as the Chicago Seven. They

were tried in an absurd “kangaroo court” proceeding, and in the end, a hung jury put an end to the

case. However, for courtroom outbursts, not elicited from the prosecutor or the judge, Seale drew four

years for contempt of court. After his release, Seale sought to make changes to the system through more

traditional means, and ran for mayor in 1973. This placard was posted in the area, and was saved by

someone who obviously saw its historical importance.
