FIRST EDITION
of the most elaborate publication inspired by the economic events of 1720, pri-
marily satirizing Dutch manifestations of the speculative mania that led to the Mississippi Bubble
in France and the South Sea Bubble in England. The regular complement of illustrations consists
of 74 plates; this copy lacks only the last (Tooverkaart, Twede Stuk). It also has plates 2, 3, 4,
and 5 from the supplementary series found in some copies, though not the supplementary engraved
list of plates. Alden 720/114; Cole, The Great Mirror of Folly, pages 23-35.
