SON, ANDREW.

Narrative and

Writings of Andrew Jackson of

Kentucky.

120 pages. Tall, narrow 12mo,

original pictorial wrappers with a portrait

of Jackson on the front cover, lacking the

rear; occasional; foxing throughout; spine

re-stitched at an early date.

Syracuse: Daily and Weekly Star Office,

1847

[400/600]

FIRST EDITION OF A SCARCE AND UNUSUAL

NARRATIVE

.

Jackson was born in 1814. For

most of his life as a slave, he did not experience

the whippings and abuse normally associated

with that condition. The most interesting part

of his narrative is his life after his escape.

Jackson, who was apparently illiterate (this nar-

rative is dictated) composed a few essays, as well

as some poetry found at the end of the work.
