One in a series by the artist for the Central Vermont Railway. The central figure in each poster is a

smuggler, a historic reference to Smuggler’s Notch, which earned its name as a trail used by smugglers

before the war of 1812 (avoiding an import tax on British goods) and during Prohibition. It opened

for skiing in 1956.
