200

ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. Typed Letter Signed, to Deadwood Sheriff Seth

Bullock, praising the slogan “Preparedness, Peace and Prosperity,” confessing that he is

unable to refrain from criticizing Wilson’s administration, and mentioning an editorial in

the

Chicago Tribune

. 1 page, 4to, personal stationery; slight fading to text (but signature is

bold), folds. (TFC)

Oyster Bay, 6 August 1915

[1,000/1,500]

That’s a first-class suggestion of yours of ‘Preparedness, Peace and Prosperity’ for the platform.

Probably you are right also about my attacking Wilson. It is impossible to avoid criticism of the

Administration; but I shall mentionWilson by name as little as possible. That’s a striking editorial in

the ChicagoTribune!”

Wilson and his administration embraced the slogan “Preparedness, Peace and Prosperity,” which, in

1916, hung outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters in NewYork.
