ROOSEVELT, FRANKLIN D. Typed Letter Signed, as Assistant Secretary of the

Navy, to autograph dealer Walter R. Benjamin, returning manuscripts [offered by him for

sale] and sending a check for those that were kept [not present]. 1 page, 4to, “Assistant

Secretary of the Navy” stationery, with integral blank; slight fading to signature, faint mar-

ginal discoloration from prior matting, folds. (TFC)

I must apologize for not sending you the manuscripts before this. I will be frank in telling you that I

could not find them anywhere and supposed they had in some way got up to Hyde Park . . . .

As you will see, I have taken nearly half of them; also I want the letter of the Marine

Committee . . . and I enclose a check. . . .”
