This sermon was delivered at the memorial service of four missionaries martyred on the
Colorado River in 1781. It is something like a sequel to Espinosa’s 1746 Chronica
Apostolica (see lot 336), and Arricivita’s 1792 “Crónica seráfica y apostólica del Colegio de
Propaganda Fide de la Santa Cruz de Querétaro” (see lot 413). It was delivered in 1794, but
not published until 1819. The first half is devoted to historical notes on Franciscan
