4to, 19th century full calf with blind-stamped emblems, boards detached; plate with

repaired tears and backed with cloth; bookplates on front pastedown. In modern cloth

folding case.

An account of the memorial ceremonies held in México in honor of King Luis I (1707-1724),

who died of smallpox just seven months after attaining the throne. An early production from

Hogal, a leading printing house of mid-18th century México. Medina, México 2838; Palau

369483; no other copies known at auction since 1869. Provenance: William Stirling (book-

plate and family motto “Gang Forward” blind-stamped on cover); Paul and Marianne
