on backstrip with library markings, crudely recased; lacking free endpapers and final blank,

moderate edge wear to first few leaves, minor dampstaining, extensive marginal notes on

leaves 1 and 2; marcas de fuego on top and bottom edges, small inked “MM” stamps on

verso of title and page 52.

The first publication of the comprehensive social code of New Spain decreed by

the Third Mexican Concilium in 1585. Largely concerned with missionary activities and the

rights of the Indians. Each source collates this work differently, but this copy has an additional

3-page Juan de la Serna dedication which was apparently not seen by Medina, Palau, or
