A beautiful advertising piece featuring McKinley, Roosevelt, the arms of several Latin
American nations, several scenes of the proposed Nicaraguan canal, and of course a prominently
displayed bottle of whiskey. The American government debated the best canal route for many
years, deciding upon Panama over Nicaragua only in June 1902.

mechanism installed on the pastedowns, as issued.

This fake prank book is intended to be loaded with a repeating cap which explodes upon
opening. The spring mechanism is a bit rusted, but fully functioning. The instructions on the front
pastedown are simple: “Pull plunger back over catch. Place . . . the end cap directly on firing
plate. Close book and lay it on the table where your friend’s curiosity will do the rest.”
