Franklin: “I don’t like the tone of the political news that comes from the U.S. It looks as if the
country were determined to change administrations.” Another from 1934, written as president
of the National Republican Club, declares that “the policies of the so-called New Deal are
unsound economically and subversive of our American form of government.”
