inches, full margins.Thirteenth state (of 16).The unique impression in this state, one

of approximately only 20 lifetime impressions in all sixteen states combined. Inscribed “8e

état no. 2” and titled in pencil, lower margin.A brilliant, richly-inked, proof-like impression

of this scarce etching, with inky plate edges and faint finger prints in the margins.

While this is the most intensely-labored version, through sixteen states, Pissarro revisited

this subject of a nude bather and geese in another etching—with some impressions printed

in colors (see following lot)—from circa 1895 (albeit with two bathers) as well as in

lithographs from around 1896 and 1897 (Delteil 119, 161 and 180 respectively). Each of

these relate to a drawing of the subject in sepia ink and wash now in the British Museum,

London (donated by the artist’s son Lucien). Delteil 115.
