DOX THRASH (1893 - 1965)
Rugged Homes
.
Carborundum mezzotint and etching on cream wove paper, circa 1944-46. 305x229 mm; 12x9
inches, wide (full ?) margins. Signed in pencil, lower right.
In the house, there is visible a faint printing from the 1941 aquatint
Shipfitters
- see Ittmann fig. 78.
Thrash apparently cut down and reused the copper plate without completely burnishing out the
previous etching.
We have found no other records of this extremely scarce print. Ittmann was unable to locate an
impression; he reproduces the print’s illustration in Cedric Dover’s
American Negro Art
. Ittmann 119:
Dover pl .44.
