Dawson, who is not well known by contemporary poster collectors, was highly regarded in his time.
W.S. Rodgers wrote that Dawson “has gripped the art and craft of pictorial advertisement with no
unsteady hand . . . he shows a fine sense of decorative effect and harmonius color in his ‘Bath Eucryl’
poster that is now so much in evidence on the hoardings . . . Mr. Dawson not only admires a beautiful
face, but he can skillfully depict one without resorting to the ‘pretty dolly’ type, and his decorative
accessories are always graceful and appropriate” (A Book of the Poster, p. ix). We can find no record
of this poster ever appearing at auction.
