Bronze, circa 1910. 153 mm; 6 inches
(height, excluding marble base).With the
artist’s name along the outer right side of
the neck.
A study for the same-title marble now at the
Stamford Museum and Nature Center,
Connecticut.
Borglum (1867-1941), was the older
brother of Solon Borglum (1868-1922)
who exhibited several sculptures at the
Armory Show. However, it was Gutzon
who went on to greater fame as the
sculptor responsible for Mount Rushmore,
South Dakota.
