Hungarian/American Karfoil (1886-1952) studied in Paris in the early 1900s and shared a
studio there with Samuel Halpert, who introduced him to collectors Gertrude and Leo Stern
and their famed Parisian salon. In NewYork, Karfoil taught painting classes at Mrs. Harry
PayneWhitney’s studio on 8th Street. Karoil painted nudes and still lifes evocative of Picasso’s
Rose and Blue Periods.
