an acquaintance who apparently didn’t recognize the poet during a recent encounter. Kilmer further
notes that “My verse is now meeting with some success.” Early issue copy without the words “Printed
in the United States of America” on the copyright page. Four years after this collection appeared,
Kilmer was killed in the Second Battle of the Marne. BAL 11104.
