Lord Chesterfield allegedly infuriated Johnson by keeping him waiting to conduct a protracted
conversation with the actor Colley Cibber, after Johnson had addressed the prospectus for his
Dictionary to Chesterfield. See Boswell, Life, 1791, Volume 1, pages 138-39.

blanks with one additional inscription on half-title of volume 1. A good set, issued in the
Oxford English Classics series.
