A
RARE
and exceptional exhibition poster for the first major retrospective of Dali’s work in Italy, which
traveled from Rome to Venice, and then to Milan. Among other works exhibited were 102 watercolors
for the
Divine Comedy
. The exhibition also included a bit of performance art on Dali’s part, as he was
carried through the city in a cube by hooded men, only to emerge at his press conference. This poster
tantalizingly shows both a detail of Guido Reni’s 1614
Aurora
, a ceiling fresco in the Palazzo
Rospigliosi, and Dali’s 1934 painting,
The Ghost of Vermeer of Delft Which Can be Used as a Table.
There
wasn’t another Dali exhibition in Italy of this size until 2010.
