Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds.
With its solid graphic tradition stemming from
the influence of de Stijl, with Paul Shuitema
and Piet Zwart as vanguards, Holland was one
of the leading countries in taking a modernist
approach towards advertising. Avant-garde
typography was put towards applications in the
everyday world. This Lotto poster, with the out-
line of an airplane dramatically placed at an
angle and the stream of text and imagery in the
background, shows the level of progressive
design that was utilized even for the most mun-
dane and mass-distributed posters.
