In 1926 Rodchenko produced a series of twenty five photomontage posters entitled “The History of
the all Russian Communist Party [VKP(b)] in Posters.” They were commissioned by the Museum of
the Revolution and were printed in many different Soviet languages to be distributed across the coun-
try. Each poster covers a separate historically notable moment within the Party’s existence. The posters
were comprised of news photos, graphs, newspaper clippings and other documents geometrically com-
posed against a red and black background. All of the posters are numbered in the upper left hand
corner. This being number one, it addresses the roots of the Communist Party, presenting “Northern
and southern workers’ unions of the 1870s, predecessors of the workers’ party.” This poster is printed
in Azeri and was issued in only 300 copies.
