Harold Porcher comes to Swann after serving as the Director of Modern and Post-War Art at Doyle, New York, since 2006. Having worked in the fine art world since 1989, Porcher served as the Director of Sid Deutsch Gallery, the Gallery Manager at Snyder Fine Art, and worked as a private dealer with his New York–based gallery, Sage Fine Art. The auction bug bit him in 2002 when he spent two years as a consultant in Chicago for Wright. Porcher has written extensively on modernism and has given talks on art and the art market. He was a founding board member of the Slobodkina Foundation, whose mission is the promotion of the artistic creations of modernist artist and children’s book author Esphyr Slobodkina.

Suzy Frelinghuysen, Act Three, oil and collage on board, 1942. Sold for $40,000.

Building Momentum

The addition of a department dedicated to Modern and Post-War paintings and sculpture marks a moment of growth, building on the momentum of our African-American Fine Art offerings of the last decade, as well as our long track record as a premier auction house for works of art on paper, including Old Master through Modern Prints; 19th & 20th Century Prints & Drawings; and Contemporary Art. This marks the first new department at Swann since the addition of dedicated Illustration Art sales in 2013.
