Limited edition, two octavo volumes, each signed in black ink by the original Alice (1853-1934); AAinW is number 574 and TTLG is number 1,276, each printed in a total edition of 1,500 copies; AAinW also signed by the binder Frederick Warde on the colophon; each with a frontispiece and numerous text illustrations by John Tenniel; bound in gilt decorated red and blue roan, all edges gilt (AAinW with sporadic, minor stains throughout; both spines a touch sunned); each contained in its original cloth slipcase; 8 5/8 x 5 5/8 in.
On the 100th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's birth in 1932, Columbia University tempted Alice Hargreaves, née Liddell, away from her rural life in England to New York City, for a series of events in the author's honor. Her visit inspired this special edition. Hargreaves signed approximately 200 copies during the trip.
