First collected edition, octavo, inscribed by Walton on frontispiece portrait of Donne facing title page, "for Miss Lutie [or Julia] Norton. Iz: Wa:"; with 14 errors in the text corrected by hand, lacking blanks A1 & A8; illustrated with portraits of each biographical subject; bound in full contemporary speckled English calf, rebacked, corners mended; ex libris Richard Chaloner Cobbe (1682-1740) with armorial bookplate inside front board; later bookplate of angling collector Henry A. Sherwin on front flyleaf; this copy sold at Sotheby's in the William Pickering sale in 1854 as lot 3658; it was offered again in the sale of Sherwin's library at Parke-Bernet in 1946, at that time it had bookplates of John Towneley and George Soaper, which have since been removed; 7 1/4 x 4 1/1 in.
