MICHAEL KELLY WILLIAMS (1950 - )
Ecclesiastics.
Oil monotype on wove paper, 1988. 559x864 mm; 22x34 inches, full margins. Signed, dated, titled and inscribed "monotype" in pencil, lower margin.
Provenance: the collection of George T. Wein, New York; the estate of George T. Wein (2021).
This vibrant artwork, like many of Michael Kelly Williams's artworks, is inspired by jazz. The title derives from Charles Mingus's popular song Ecclusiastics - first recorded by the jazz pianist and composer in 1961 for his album Oh Yeah. Ecclesiastics was used as the cover art for jazz pianist Gerri Allen's 1990 album The Nurturer.
All proceeds to benefit the Newport Festivals Foundations, Inc., the non-profit organization created by George Wein to carry on the legacy of his Newport Jazz and Newport Folk Festivals.
