Provenance: Private collection, New York.
Gertrude Stein (1874-1946) first saw Tchelitchew's (1898-1957) work at the 1925 Salon d'Automne in Paris and became one of the artist's most important patrons. Alice B. Toklas (1877-1967) and Stein met in Paris in 1907, marking the start of a relationship that would last until Stein's death in 1946.
